Great Reads

So Long, Insecurity…. you’ve been a bad friend to us”  By Beth Moore

This is a book that helps us deal with our insecurities. It is a Great Read. We all have insecurities.  This book will help us identify them, and help with dealing with our insecurities. How we respond to our insecurities, how it affect our life and how we can not be insecure any longer.

“If we don’t stop feeding the unhealthy part of us – the beast within- over time it will develop the strength of a grizzly and drag the rest of us off as its kill.  Hosea 14:4 the Lord says, ‘I will cure them of their unfaithfulness.  I will love them freely.’ Beth says

that God has cured her of her own gross unfaithfulness.”

One of the ways that God can help cure us is for us to learn as woman to help each other out.  That is one of the things that I do in counseling.  That is what The Lazarus Life Group is all about, helping each other.  This book gives help on how we can learn to do just that.

The Last Addiction
 By Sharon Hersh

Sharon Hersh writes, “We all suffer from the same condition.” She explores why we are prone to addiction – and how we can break free of our compulsions.  This in not a book of self help but a book of falling down and getting up again, about realizing that we need more than ourselves to be saved. The Last Addiction invites us to see our own story clearly as we better understand our longing for intimacy.

“Everyone has baggage. And we tend to accumulate more the older we get.  What determines the quality of your life is what you use to carry your bags.  I need something that is not of my flesh to save me.  Saint Gregory of Nyssa says” Concepts create idols: only wonder comprehends anything. People kill one another over idols. Wonder makes us fall to our knees.”

How do we surrender and stop carrying our bags alone? I am only 1/3 through this one but I can’t wait to finish it to share about reading it.   Get yourself a copy.    I know I want to find the lasting freedom.

A Busy Woman's Guide to Prayer
By Cheri Fuller

One of my granddaughters bought me this book for Christmas 2010. How can I not read something that a granddaughter picked out herself for me.  This book talks about the basics of prayer and there are so many nuggets of truth in this book it amazes me. It is exactly what I needed.

Praying with a Godward Focus
Faith focuses your eyes on God and his promises, faithfulness and availability.

Faith sees God present, deeply concerned, and active.

Faith looks at the problems and needs from God’s perspective.

-Wesley Duewel

“God is the Unstoppable Force. He is still doing great things in spite of the bad things going on in our world.”
-Matt Massey

Thank you, Brooklynn for this wonderful gift.  God uses it everyday to speak to my heart and I am only ½ done with it.  This is part of my daily reading.

Deb’s thoughts

…Our lives are so busy in today’s world.  God desires us to be in relationship with others.  I believe that also means our family.  What can we do to inspire more time together with the spouse and children?  Just a few ideas are….dinner together with no TV,  Outing together (never go anywhere alone.  Take a child or your spouse.  Traveling is a good time to communicate) ...
