When an individual is struggling, it may be beneficial to bring the family in to the session to help see how the family system works.
As the family interacts in session, 'baggage', traditions or faulty behavior can be identified. Compromises can be made and changes can happen to bring peace and harmony back to the family.
When one person in the family is sick or hurting it affects the whole family. Within the family counseling approach, communication skills can be learned, role play and practicing different techniques can be applied that will benefit the families harmony.
